Fairy Garden Workshop:
Enter the World of the Fairies

In the morning portion of this class you will make two fairy chairs from curly willow with moss cushions, a table from curly willow, a maple tree disk, gazing ball, and an acorn bird house. You will also be shown other ideas for miniatures that you may wish to make and add on your own.

Next you will plan out and plant your own miniature garden to set your creations in. You will be supplied with 6 plants, soil, gravel for path, moss and mulch. Rick will share his garden experience with you as well, and share ideas for what may and may not work in a miniature garden setting.

Student will need to provide a container for the garden (Approximately 12” x 12”).  Here are a few ideas for containers, although some are a bit too large to bring in and actually finish in the classroom.  These you could finish and add to at home: Old pails, Wheel barrows, Bird baths, Wooden Boxes, Wagons, Baskets

About Rick

Rick Petersen, a graduate of Minneapolis College of Art and Design, is a gardener, graphic artist and dollmaker.  He is currently the Creative Director of Advertising for Bachmans. He says that dollmaking satisfies, comforts and helps him work out life's ups and downs.  Most of all it makes him smile!

His imagination, creativity and love for nature is evident in his designs for both gardening and doll making, which he is able to combine in this Fairy Garden Workshop.   He coauthored the book, The Complete Photo Guide to Dollmaking, published in 2010. He is a popular creative teacher in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, teaching at local quilt shops and quilting events.  He loves the challenge of using found objects and repurposing them to make small landscapes and homes for his garden friends. His doll, Ascending to Myself, was in the premier issue of Art Doll Quarterly.
