It isn't just the face that adds expression to your work. The hands have a lot to say.
St Nick 30 inches

Class Description:  This class will cover the basics of working with polymer or paper clay to create hands.

Three methods will be shown for creating hands varying from very simple, tiny hands to more complex ones that are built over wire armatures.

Maureen will do multiple demonstrations of her step by step process that she uses for creating hands for her signature characters.

There will also be technique handouts for your reference as you go about building your skills.

Blue Fairy
The ability to sculpt is a skill
that develops in layers, with each
pair of hands that you make a step in that learning process.

If you have already sculpted hands, or have drawn, painted or photographed them, you may already have embedded in your thinking processes the basic proportions and shapes of average hands. All of this helps.

BUT, if you are a beginner, be bold! Each hand and each character that you make will create an easier pathway for making the next one.

The class will start with the very basic steps, which is seeing what a hand looks like. Come and be amazed at what you can create.

Students will be encouraged to imagine, to plan, to learn, to play, to get in touch with that part which yearns to create.  The focus will be on setting an atmosphere where wonderful things might happen, and usually do ...

Hand
Until then, something to think about:
Sculpting is about training your eyes to see, your heart to feel and your hands to move the tools.
